The revitalisation of Melton is set to continue, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Melton Steve McGhie today announced $27,608 in funding from the Suburban Revitalisation Program for the Expansion of the Food Garden and Café project that will improve community wellbeing and prosperity in Melton.

Identified by the Melton Suburban Revitalisation Board, the Expansion of the Food Garden and Café will be delivered by local partners including Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services.

The project will revitalise Melton by delivering additional elements to the existing Café and Food Garden Project, previously funded by the Melton SRB.

The additional scope for this project includes:

  • Furnishings and garden equipment (seating, shading umbrellas and pergola, garden beds and other garden equipment)
  • Monthly workshops on sustainable food growing practices for the community x 7, in partnership with local businesses, as well as the South Sudanese Homework Club Program
  • Community Art Project mosaic welcome signage for the food garden in partnership with Djerriwarrh College
  • Greenhouse for seed propagation and development of a seed library and shelving
  • Site clean for greenhouse foundations
  • Installation of above listed equipment.

To date, the Andrews Labor Government has invested more than $3.3 million in 27 Melton suburban revitalisation projects valued at more than $4.5 million.

Suburban Revitalisation Boards focus on driving economic and social renewal across Melbourne.

Since 2016, the Suburban Revitalisation program has invested more than $44 million into 216 projects, worth more than $100 million across metropolitan Melbourne.
