NEW COMMUTER CAR PARKS AT UPGRADED MELTON STATION

Commuters at the recently upgraded Melton Station will soon benefit from improved car parking, with works underway to deliver 100 new and upgraded spaces.

The works will increase car parking at the station to 980 spaces, freeing up local streets and making it easier and safer for people to catch a train at Melton Station.

The project is part of the Andrew Labors Government’s Car Parks for Commuters program, which is helping to deliver 11,000 new and upgraded parking spaces at train stations across the state.

At its busiest, Melton Station has had more than 1.6 million passenger trips taken to or from the station a year. With the car park easily filled, commuters often parked informally near the station or moved to another station during busy times.

In addition to the new car parks, new lighting and CCTV will improve security while a new secure Parkiteer bicycle cage and 52 bike hoops will make it more convenient for people to ride to the station and further ease pressure on car parking.

The Melton car park project follows recent platform and access upgrades at the station by V/Line as part of the Labor Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works stimulus package. These works support the changes made to train services as part of the Ballarat Line upgrade works and the associated timetable change.

Crews delivered a second entrance to platform one, a footpath connecting the new entrance to the Exford Road level crossing, four new accessible parking spaces, extra seats and shelters on the platform and new CCTV cameras.

Investment in the Ballarat Line also includes the recent Ballarat Line Upgrade which delivered a new station at Cobblebank and major station upgrades at Rockbank, Ballan, Bacchus Marsh and Wendouree. The upgrade provides passengers with more travel options than ever before, with 140 more weekly services stopping at the station.

Work is also underway to remove two level crossings at Fitzgerald Road in Ardeer and Robinsons Road in Deer Park, and early concept designs have been released for the removal of the Mt Derrimut Road level crossing, which will remove the last of the crossings between Deer Park and the City.
