DELIVERING BETTER PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR MELTON

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering better public transport connections for Melbourne’s outer western suburbs, with hundreds of new train services now on the tracks and an upgrade to Melton Station to get underway soon.

Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll and Member for Melton Steve McGhie today visited the station to announce the contract award for improvements to its accessibility, safety and technology – with the works to be delivered by a Victorian company.
MCT constructions will deliver $900,000 of works to improve the station – with the construction of a second entrance to platform one, a new footpath connecting the new entrance to the Exford Road level crossing, four new accessible parking spaces, extra platform seats and shelters, new CCTV cameras and two new passenger information displays.

The company will also reconstruct the surface of the Ballarat end of platform one as part of V/Line’s annual program of routine maintenance across the network.
Construction is set to kick off in March, with crews starting on works in the car park and footpath before completing the on-platform works during the next period of planned rail replacements to minimise the disturbance to passengers.

Communities in Melbourne’s outer western suburbs along the Ballarat line are seeing the benefits of the huge Ballarat Line Upgrade – with 125 new services along the line, more trains stopping along the route more frequently, a brand new station servicing the growing community of Cobblebank and a rebuilt Rockbank station.

The new timetable has delivered a train every 20 minutes along the line during the peak and every 40 minutes throughout the day, and V/Line coaches and local buses are being re-coordinated with the new timetable to ensure communities beyond Ballarat have convenient connections with trains.
