Residents and businesses in more than 27,500 premises in and around Melton can look forward to improved mobile service quality, with upgrades and infrastructure builds set to begin across the state through the Victorian Government’s Connecting Victoria program.

Minister for Innovation, Medical Research and the Digital Economy Jaala Pulford today announced that the
Victorian Government is partnering with telecommunications providers Optus and TPG Telecom to build and
upgrade mobile towers that cover about 160 square kilometres across Brookfield, Cobblebank, Aintree, Weir Views, Exford, Melton South and Toolern Vale.

Optus and TPG Telecom have agreed to share infrastructure at one of these towers, giving locals a choice of mobile provider and improving competition.

Optus and TPG Telecom will begin work later this year. Victorians living and working in these areas will start to see improved mobile connectivity as new infrastructure is installed between 2024 and 2026.

Through Connecting Victoria, Government is investing $300 million to upgrade or install new infrastructure at about 1,000 sites in suburbs across the state where Victorians told us it is most needed.

Businesses and residents have told us that outer western Melbourne is experiencing rapid development and
growth. Locals say that better mobile connectivity in places like Melton will boost businesses, allow more remote working and help make communities more inclusive.

This investment in new infrastructure will deliver better mobile services where they are most needed, helping to grow businesses, create jobs and connect more Victorians to loved ones.

The Victorian Government’s $550 million Connecting Victoria program is fast-tracking improvements to mobile
coverage and broadband access across the state.

More Connecting Victoria projects in locations across the state will be announced throughout 2022. To keep up to date, visit vic.gov.au/connectingvictoria.
