The Andrews Labor Government has acquired land in Melbourne’s growing outer western suburbs, bringing another brand-new primary school one step closer for local families.
Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins today announced land has been acquired in Weir Views, south of Melton, for the future delivery of Toolern Waters P-6 Primary School (interim name), which will provide local students with great a school close to home.
The Victorian Budget 2022/23 provided $236.7 million to acquire land for 15 future new schools, meeting growing community needs across Victoria and ensuring every kid has access to a great local school.
Since 2018, $978 million has been invested to acquire land for new schools across the state, including the 12 new schools set to open next year.
The Labor Government is ahead of schedule in opening 100 new schools by 2026, with 75 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024 – over the past 5 years more schools have opened in Victorian than any other state or territory in the nation.
A further investment of $25 million in planning funding will support delivery of the remaining 25 schools, ensuring all Victorian students have access to the modern, top-class facilities that they deserve.
In the past eight years, the government has invested more than $12.8 billion to build new schools and complete more than 1,850 school upgrades, creating around 17,400 jobs in construction and associated industries.
The Labor Government is building the Education State to ensure every student has access to a great education in their local area, no matter where they live.
