The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading three busy intersections along High Street in Melton to make it safer and easier for all road users.
High Street carries around 17,000 vehicles each day and is the main thoroughfare through Melton, connecting the community to Melton’s largest shopping precinct and the Western Freeway interchanges.
The Labor Government is investing $17 million to improve the High Street and Coburns Road, High Street and Norton Drive, and High Street and Holland Drive intersections – which will boost safety for locals heading to the shops and ease congestion throughout the area.
Coburns Road currently funnels significant volumes of traffic from the nearby Western Freeway south to Brookfield, Melton South and Melton train station, as well as traffic to central Melton and West Melton to the north.
The existing roundabout at the High Street and Coburns Road intersection will be replaced with new traffic lights to make it easier to navigate.
New traffic lights and signalised pedestrian crossings at High Street and Norton Drive will also improve access to the Melton Industrial Estate.
The High Street and Holland Drive intersection will undergo minor widening works to cater for heavy vehicles turning on to High Street or Holland Drive.
Locals are encouraged to attend this week’s community information sessions for more information about the upgrade.
The sessions will be held at the Woodgrove Shopping Centre near Coles on Thursday 16 February 2023 from 3.30pm to 6.30pm and Saturday 18 February 2023 from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
