ENGAGEMENT UNDERWAY TO PROGRESS NEW MELTON HOSPITAL
The Andrews Labor Government is bringing together some of the world’s biggest construction companies to kickstart work to build the new Melton hospital, which will to treat tens of thousands of Victorians each year.
Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas will address more than 350 major infrastructure experts at a briefing in early October, which will be the first step in securing a partner to deliver the new hospital.
The briefing paves the way for the start of the competitive procurement process where shortlisted companies will help deliver the new Melton Hospital in the most innovative and cost-effective way.
A Community Consultative Committee, chaired by Member for Melton Steve McGhie, has been appointed to provide advice on the project. The community are encouraged to contribute to the committee through an online survey.
Community input will be provided to shortlisted builders, with the opportunity for it to be reflected in the design and operation of the new hospital.
The Labor Government has invested more than $900 million to deliver the new Melton Hospital in Cobblebank, which will transform Melbourne’s outer west and give locals access to world-class healthcare closer to home.
The new hospital will be Victoria’s first fully electric hospital and will provide 24/7 emergency, 274 beds, an intensive care unit, maternity and neonatal services, mental health services, radiology services and outpatient care.
Once completed, the new hospital will have capacity to treat 130,000 patients each year and see almost 60,000 patients in the emergency department.
The Victorian Health Building Authority will deliver the project, in partnership with Western Health, who will operate the hospital. Construction is expected to start in 2024 and the hospital and is set to be finished in 2029.
