BOOSTING MELTON’S TOWN CENTRE
Melton is set to benefit from a range of Andrews Labor Government backed projects designed to attract more visitors to the town centre, supporting local jobs and boosting community activity.
Member for Melton Steve McGhie MP today announced $1 million in funding for eight projects identified by the Melton Suburban Revitalisation Board, to be delivered in partnership with Melton City Council and Djerriwarrh Community and Educations Services.
Along High Street, nearly $600,000 will fund three outdoor dining areas to encourage visitors to spend more time on Melton’s main street, adding new seating and tables, portable shade, landscaping and extended footpaths.
A free, after-dark Winter Arts & Culture Festival will receive $180,000, making Melton an attractive cultural destination, while a further $70,000 has been allocated to the Melton Town Centre Digital Strategy and Buy Local Campaign.
Families will be supported with a new play area adjacent to the old Court House thanks to a $150,000 investment that will help source locally designed and manufactured playground equipment, bringing the Labor Government’s total contribution to $450,000 for the Kid Zone project.
Since 2020, the Labor Government has invested more than $3.5 million in 28 suburban revitalisation projects in Melton including the Courthouse Café upgrade, youth employment program, community events, pop up shops, shopfront and streetscape works.
There are eight Suburban Revitalisation Boards across Melbourne, focused on driving economic and social renewal in Broadmeadows, Boronia, Frankston, Lilydale, Melton, Noble Park, Reservoir and Tarneit. Since 2016, the Suburban Revitalisation program has invested more than $45 million into 218 projects.
